Daughters First Solid Food
This evenings dinner we introduced my firstborn daughter to solid foods. Choose carrots since its a staple vegetable of our house and wanted to introduce a vegetable first over a fruit. Carrots are kinda sweet though.
We hadnt thought about doing it until her 4 month pediatrition apppointment where our peditrition had asked about if we were planning to or have started. I dont think either of us had really considered that it would be so soon! So we figured that soon we would be giving it a try. I had a lot of questions about what to expect as far as my daughters reaction. She had said that it didnt really matter, the main point was to simply introduce her to the concept of solid foods. She could just smear it over her face and that’d be fine.
While I was making dinner for my wife and I took the opportunity to prep some carrots. Figured boiling them and trying to make a puree was probably the way to go. Peeled a carrot, cut it up into rounds and boiled in a little some water. Had to add some more half way though, took a bit longer to get mushy then I figured. After cooking took a hand blender and some of the water used to cook them and made a puree.
My daugher isnt big enough for a high chair so we usually have her sit in a bouncer near the dinning room table while we eat. This time we went over to her to see how she’d like carrots. We didnt have a proper spoon but did have a drink mixer spoon which was small and did the trick. Put a little bit of carrot on the spoon and placed it next to her lips. She went right for it! Slurped up a little bit and put her hands to her face. Think she liked it. Went to give her more and she just kept taking it. Was careful not to give her too much at a time, but she kept taking little slurps.
All in all i’d say she ate like a teaspoon or two of the carrot puree. Which was far and beyond any expectations I had. So proud of her!
